Design Process

PROBLEMS: Company X needs to hire 200 new members for their technical team this year. However, they are not happy with the quality and quantity of new hires from last year. HR interviewers will have to take an effective interview course  in conjunction with the technical training they are currently getting. However, those HR professionals are busy.

INITIAL ASSESSMENT:

The source document contains hiring interview tips with applicable examples. Therefore, the content can easily be turned into few scenarios for the learners to practice the interviewing skills.

With additional contents including scenarios and knowledge check, the seat time for the entire course is estimated to be around 30-40 minutes. The length of the seat time can potentially cause cognitive overload and unfocussed attention. Fortunately, the topics easily lend themselves to micro learning. This approach is also beneficial to increase material retention because participants digest small information each day, practice them, and get the principles reiterated throughout the course.

SOLUTION:

  • The course will be divided into several micro e-learning modules to increase retention. Participants are expected to do the course daily for a maximum of 5 minutes each until the course is completed.

  • The first module provides motivation by giving the reason why it’s important to complete the whole series and also provides summary of the course topics. Important points will be practiced in the subsequent modules and then reiterated in the last module.

  • Scenarios will be employed for all the micro learning modules.
